The People of J.H. Berry: John Hardin

John Hardin

Up next in our employee Q&A series is John Hardin, vice president of office sales and leasing.

With more than 34 years of experience in tenant, landlord and property owner representation, John is a key member of the J.H. Berry team. His impressive list of accomplishments includes CRE partner and director roles, his former role as president of Alabama’s Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) chapter and receiving the Co-Star Power Broker Award.

John’s reputation for excellence is also well-known outside of the office. An active member in the community, his involvement has spanned across multiple boards, committees and organizations. For all his impactful contributions and his commitment to excellence, John was named to the Birmingham Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40.

John received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in business and real estate from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University.

With 34 years of experience, it’s clear that you enjoy working in commercial real estate. What about your job interests you the most? I enjoy working with and for a variety of people. I also really enjoy helping my clients and adding value by saving them time and money, in addition to giving my clients peace of mind that their interests are protected.

Businesses and industries are always changing. What excites you about the future of the commercial real estate field? The more our industry changes – mostly through technology today – the more challenging and interesting it is. No transaction is ever the same, so our work is never monotonous and I am constantly learning, which is something I very much enjoy.

Your list of accomplishments reflects your commitment to excellence in all you do. Are there certain values that you try to bring to work every day? I think success in any service industry is a combination of hard work, integrity, discipline, balance, enjoying what you do and staying focused on your clients’ interests

Commercial real estate is a competitive industry. What sets J.H. Berry apart from the rest? We keep our clients’ interests above all others.

It’s obvious you’re enjoying a successful CRE career, but how do you enjoy spending your free time? I have 4 children that keep me very busy outside of work. I was a competitive swimmer when I was young, so I still swim daily for exercise.
