How did you come to work in the commercial real estate industry?
I’ve always had an interest in real estate, but commercial real estate in particular became of interest after I graduated from college and was living back in Birmingham. I thought it was such an untapped industry for women my age and I wanted to be a part of it. Looking for an opportunity to combine my marketing and sales background with a focus on commercial real estate led me to J.H. Berry!
Which sector of Birmingham’s CRE market has the most potential for growth in the years ahead?
We are experiencing an abundance of growth in the retail and multi-family sectors right now, which has really put Birmingham back on the map from a regional and national standpoint. I hope this will start attracting new businesses and companies to move to or expand in Birmingham, which will allow our office market to grow and present new opportunities. We need new professional businesses to come to the area to help sustain the activity that is already happening, and I hope to be a part of those efforts.
What do you like best about living and working in Birmingham?
This is my hometown, and I have loved being able to experience the growth and revitalization that the city has made over the past few years. I love the convenience of a small town that Birmingham offers while having the resources and amenities of a large city. The food scene is definitely the number one thing I brag about to out of towners!
What is one of your most unique hobbies?
A few of my friends and I started the BHAM_foodstagram Instagram account, which features pictures of all types of food at local restaurants. Initially, we just wanted an outlet to share pictures of our dining experiences with our friends all in one place. Over time, it has grown and become a fun hobby for us. There are so many awesome restaurants and places to eat in Birmingham and we just want to share that with the community!
What’s your favorite memory from working at J.H. Berry so far?
Helping our clients realize their real estate goals and needs and being a resource and advocate for them along the way. I enjoy getting to work with a variety of people and companies on a day-to-day basis. No two transactions are the same and that always keeps it interesting!
