Paulk Turner, Director of Appraisal and Valuation Services at J.H. Berry & Gilbert, Inc., recently earned the prestigious MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute, indicating his expertise in the field of valuation of income-producing commercial properties, including retail, office, industrial, institutional, multi-family residential and vacant land.
The MAI designation provides tangible evidence of Paulk’s ability to offer a range of valuation and consulting services to a wide variety of lenders, owners, attorneys and investors in commercial real estate.
“Many lending institutions now require an MAI to complete any appraisal assignment on which they lend, especially following the financial crisis over the past several years,” according to Paulk.
Earning the MAI provides instant credibility to lending institutions and investors through the completion of its difficult requirements. These requirements included: over 10 Appraisal Institute-sponsored courses, most of which consisted of 36 hours of classroom time and a 4 hour exam; review of his most recent 4,500 hours of work by the Appraisal Institute; a comprehensive examination consisting of four, 4-hour exams requiring substantial preparation time outside of work; and, the General Demonstration of Knowledge (also known as the Demonstration Report), which was the most detailed appraisal report of his career, taking several months to complete, and reviewed by multiple MAI’s and verified for accuracy.
During his 15 year career as an appraiser, Paulk has appraised over 600 properties in Georgia and Alabama, and has worked primarily in the central Alabama area since 2004.
“This designation positively impacts J.H. Berry and its clients by adding appraisal and valuation services to the existing full service platform already offered by the company,” said Paulk. “Just as our team of brokers and property managers have the highest designations in their fields (CCIM, CPM, SIOR), the appraisal division now has the same distinction.”
Paulk’s MAI designation will allow J.H. Berry to provide clients with a more robust and complementary set of commercial real estate services in-house, utilizing the most accurate market information and resources.
Join us in congratulating Paulk on this wonderful achievement that will certainly benefit J.H. Berry and its clients!
